Sorry it’s a bit late avid news-readers but here it is: the first match report of 2014!
Played on Sunday at home against Keele (with guest star Dave Attwood from Castle), CaNKorf faced a toughie, managing to scrape together a team of 7 with some special Salop-korf guest stars Josh and Hannah and returning wildcard Matt – the team had never played together before and, with a player down it didn’t look good!
First goal went to CaNKorf (thank goodness!) and from the end of 3 too – what luck! After that goals were traded pretty evenly in the first half, but CaNKorf managed to pull through with our more “experienced” (ha ha) players showing they’re made of stern stuff and by half time the score was 7-3 to… us! Hoorah!
Unfortunately, as anyone ever having played short will tell you, the second half is the toughest, you have to dig deep and keep pushing. Mistakes are easy to make and with Neil, Josh and Eleanor having to push through doing the work of an extra person we did well to hold the score for a good 5 minutes, and then – hoorah again! After a mighty effort from the boys and girls in orange and green the final score was (somehow) 12-4 with goals coming from Josh (2), Neil (2), Sarah (2), Eleanor (2) and the mighty Pete (4) – no goals for Hannah and Matt but their efforts more than proved themselves in defence where nothing got past them.
